Good morning readers. Welcome to our first ever morning roundup. Evan explained it to you yesterday in his introductory post, but I’ll repeat for those of you that didn’t read it (shame on you!) or need a refresher. Every morning we’re going to attempt to make sense of the all the daily deals that flood your inbox. The notable deals (we won’t flood you with every single food deal on offer) will be labelled with Must-Buy, Fifty-Fifty, and Avoid. The sites we’ll focus on (because we have to draw the line somewhere) are: LivingSocial, Groupon, Scoutmob, Google Offers, and The Capitol Deal. So without further ado here are the deals for Wednesday, April 4:
Scoutmob is the winner today
Must-Buy: This isn’t a new deal per se, but new to me in today’s email. Scoutmob is offer ing 50% off at HeeBeen Asian Bistro . This one is app only, so you non-smarthphone users are out of luck. HeeBeen is an all you can eat extravaganza. If you go at lunch this deal will pay for two to eat half off. You’ll be full and you’ll be happy, I promise
Fifty-Fifty: This one has intrigued and confused me since I first saw it. The Capitol Deal is offering a LunchPass. There’s a lot of stipulations involved and a number restaurants participating. The deal boils down to $5 gets you a lunch pass valid at 5 restaurants. If you spend more than $9 at lunch you get $3 off. I would recommend this to people that work downtown (Loeb’s is one of DC’s better delis) and eat out a lot. It’s good for the whole month of April, so if you’re going to do it now is the time.
Avoid: Today I’m going to give a strong no to Google Offer’s $10 for $20 at Masala Wok. This isn’t entirely based on the food itself (though I’m not a fan of restaurants that offer lots of different cuisines in general), but the deal. Indian/Asian food usually gets pretty pricey and Masala Wok is no different. You’ll quickly burn through this deal and isn’t worth the buy.
Avoid: Also getting a no today is LivingSocial’s $20 for $40 at Tsunami Sushi and Lounge. At first this one jumped out, but the sushi is overpriced (and any place with lounge in the title scares me where food is concerned).
