The Morning Roundup

The Morning Roundup 04/11/2012

After a couple of days of lackluster food deals we’re back with the goods. Finally my inbox had something other than spa treatments and facial peels. Let’s see what we got:

Must Buy: $25 for $50 at Sou’wester courtesy of LivingSocial, sign me up instantly. Sou’wester is one of the better restaurants you’ll see on a deal site. Yearly ranked as one of the best restaurants in the city, it certainly lives up to expectations. I was slightly disappointed to see that this deal wasn’t available for Brunch (one of Sou’wester’s highlights), but nonetheless don’t hesitate to buy this one.

Must Buy: $15 for $30 at La Plaza via The Capitol Deal is another Must Buy today. I really enjoy La Plaza. After work on Capitol Hill or just because you’re in the area, this deal is well worth your money. The food is fresh, the chips are unlimited, basically you can’t go wrong.

Fifty-Fifty: Scoutmob is usually a dependable source for deals, but didn’t bring it’s best to play today. 50% off at Madhatter piques my interest, but doesn’t push me into the deal. Happy hour is excluded, and the max discount is $20. The food there isn’t worth the trip (especially with other good options in surrounding Dupont). I miss Mad Hatter’s old basement location on M St. personally. However, if you’re at Mad Hatter, Scoutmob doesn’t require you to purchase ahead, use it.

I want this

Avoid: You have no idea how much this hurts my heart to write. I wanted to love this deal. I really really did. But I can’t tell you to buy it. $10 for $20 for Katz’s Delicatessen is a good deal in theory. I love Katz’s. My grandfather grew up near the deli (located on the Lower East Side of New York). And their motto, “Send a salami to your boy in the army” pre-dates online ordering. But getting pastrami from Katz’s online delivered to you here in DC is no cheap thing. Their pastrami is the best and comes at a premium. So factor in shipping costs and it’s just not worth it. Save your money for a Megabus, get up to New York and dive in to one of their legendary sandwiches.

I may still buy it just because I can’t help myself.
