The Morning Roundup

The Morning Roundup 7/11/2012

Did you survive the sudden rainstorm last night? I hope you did. I hope you weren’t outside eating a lovely meal when it hit. If you were, let’s hope these deals make you feel better.

Must Buy: I really like Indian food, and as I’ve complained here before sometimes you get deals to Indian restaurants that just aren’t worth it. You want to like them, but Indian is often just too pricey. So that’s why The Capitol Deal’s deal to Rasoi Indian Kitchen (1810 K St., NW) is awesome. $25 gets you an appetizer, 2 entrees, bread, and 2 desserts. That’s crazy. A dinner for 2 for $25. I’m sold.

Fifty-Fifty: A lot of deals we see come through the door look awesome at face value. But the deeper you dig the more you uncover that makes you question the deal. This is what happened with today’s $7 for $15 to Malaysia Kopitiam. The food here is awesome, but you’re just not going to get the bang for your buck. Only one deal per table will get you one entree for your whole party. If you’re dining alone then maybe this is good, but don’t go looking to save a ton of money on this one.

Fifty-Fifty: Gastro pubs for me are hit or miss. Often the food is overpriced in the name of being upscale, and more often the food just doesn’t do it for me. Obviously there are exceptions. Also when presented with a deal sometimes you just have to take the plunge. I’m not sold on today’s deal to Redline Gastrolounge. $25 for $50 for dinner or $15 for $30 for lunch are good not great deals.  Penn Quarter throws a lot at you, so if you’re heading that way and are tired of Hill Country (why are you even saying that) and some of the other great options give Redline a look.
