The Morning Roundup 01/17/2013

One deal for you this morning, and it’s aimed at a pretty specific group of people, which means for only the second time ever we’re breaking out the rare Must Buy/Fifty-Fifty Combo rating.  Here you go.

Must Buy/Fifty-Fifty: Are you a vegan? Do you frequently dine with a vegan? Are you trying to impress a vegan?  Then you’ll absolutely want to drive up to Soul Vegetarian Restaurant near Howard University and take advantage of today’s Scoutmob for $5 off food or smoothies. Everyone else?

Well hello there. It’s another beautiful day in DC (sarcasm!). If it’s going to be cold and rainy in January, can we please just get a little colder and turn it into snow? Please? Somebody? It’s also the middle of the week so you’re halfway home. You can make it to the long weekend. To the deals!

Fifty-Fifty: I like today’s LivingSocial’s $15 for $30 to Bankok Bistro at Ballston (715 North Glebe Rd.), I do. It’s better than your average Thai deal. However, it’s not superb (you’re going to get two entrees and one appetizer) and if you live in DC you’re going to have to pay for metro or a cab or gas.

Good morning! Only one deal for you today, and oy do I have mixed feelings about it.

Fifty-Fifty: Oh man. Based on the recent reviews of Nage in Dupont Circle, today’s Livingsocial deal would be an easy, no-brainer, absolute must-buy if I was rating it on the food alone.  The problem here? $20 for $40 just isn’t going to cut it for dinner for two, unless you’re willing to narrow your choices to only the least expensive entrees and forgo the delicious-looking appetizers and desserts.  Definitely pick this up if you’re looking for a $20 discount on a delicious dinner in Dupont, but if you need your deals to cover the whole price, this is unfortunately one to skip.

Welcome back from the weekend everyone. Hope you ate something tasty. We’re back in the swing of things, and to prove last week wasn’t a fluke we got more deals to get you eating this week.

Must Buy: The Capitol Deal back in action this week with a tasty kabob deal. $12.50 for $25 at Kabob Bazaar (two location, Bethesda and Arlington) is a really tasty offering. I’m a big fan of good kabob (I’m a sucker for lamb kabob) and Kabob Bazaar fits the bill here. Not much more to say on this, so pick your location and get to it.

Friday! We made it! And there are a lot of deals out there. Here we go:

Must-Buy: Even though it’s out in Falls Church, today’s Google Offer for three courses at 2941 for only $50 is fantastic.  For an upscale, occasion restaurant like this that’s turning out some delicious food, you’re not going to do much better.  Pick this up immediately, and start planning a special night out.

Fifty-Fifty: I’m not particularly thrilled about an offer for Cafe Luna in Dupont, but the value of LivingSocial’s deal of $42 for a three course meal for 2 plus a glass of wine each is too high for me to make it an avoid.

We’re creeping toward the end of the week and this weekend is looking nice. Hopefully you’re healthy and will be able to enjoy it. I spoke too soon yesterday, but today I think is my day to return to health. We got one deal and it’s so-so, but check it out.

Fifty-Fifty: Shirlington has a lot of great spots. It’s a quaint area with a nice a movie theater and good dining. If you’re looking for a night out and you have to have a deal then today’s Scoutmob to Bungalow Sports Grill (2766 S Arlington Mill Dr., Arlington) could be right up your alley.

We’re halfway through and if you’re like me, you may now just be getting back to health. I don’t know what hit DC, but boy have I been sick. Finally feeling better, here are some deals that might make you feel a little better:

Must Buy: Glover Park is a pretty good dining area. There’s a lot of solid options and good deals to be had. Today’s Scoutmob for Bourbon (2348 Wisconsin Ave., NW) is just one such deal. Offering solid food and good drinks, this $15 discount (excluding happy hour) will get you on your way.

It’s good to be back! Here’s what we’ve got today.

Fifty-Fifty: Scoutmob’s $25 for $50 worth of Cuban food at Cubano’s is a pretty good deal.  The restaurant gets solid reviews from Yelpers and the Washington Post, and that $50 will cover dinner for two, although you’ll likely have to spend out of pocket to get drinks as well.  The downside? It’s up in Silver Spring, which isn’t the most appealing destination for most DC residents.  At only a 6 minute walk from the metro, though, this is still a viable option.

Expect the Morning Roundup Monday-Friday and new features Tuesday-Thursday. This will keep us fresh and keep you entertained. We missed you all very much and we got a lot to talk about. Finally a few good deals. They aren’t the best I’ve seen, but good enough for a Tuesday.

Must Buy: While Sette Osteria (1666 Connecticut Ave., NW) may not be the best place in the city for brunch, today’s Capitol Deal is great. $16 gets you an entree and bottomless Mimosas, Bellinis, or coffee (don’t choose coffee). I’m a fan of bottomless drinking in all it’s forms, so throw in some food and you’re going to have one happy camper. This is a solid deal for a lazy Sunday.
