A Cut Above

Bistro Bohem

When you think of European food, you probably think of Italy and France, or maybe Spanish tapas and British pub food.  Odds are you haven’t thought much, if at all, of the Czech Republic, a country not exactly known in America for its food.  But Bistro Bohem, which opened in March in Shaw, is quickly trying to change some attitudes in DC.  Bistro Bohem’s delicious take on Central/Eastern European food, based on the owner’s Czechoslovakian heritage, might just convince Washingtonians to turn their attention just a bit further east.

Red Toque Cafe

Red Toque Cafe, on the corner of R and 6th Street NW, is an unassuming little restaurant; its website boasts not of a fancy new chef or a special summer menu but of their “new” (as of April 2011) awning.  Inside, though, is a charming neighborhood spot, with counter service for quick takeout or tables for sit-down dining. More importantly, they’re offering up some tasty Middle Eastern-style food. The Morning Roundup 4/27/2012

It’s time to say goodbye and good riddance to this week, which has been pretty terrible for deals.  Today is no exception, with nothing particularly great coming your way. Here’s hoping next week shapes up a little bit better.

[UPDATE] Must Buy: Cafe Sazon in Arlington dropped a last minute fantastic deal on us. Groupon has three deals to pick from but we’re recommending the $33 for a dinner for 4. For $8.25 you get an entree, a dessert, and a drink. WHAT?!? The food must have to be terrible. Not so.

Beau Thai

Beau Thai, courtesy of yelp.com

I spent the first 18 years of my life in the middle of Long Island, where great pizza and Chinese food could be found in abundance but where Thai food options were slim. There was one Thai food restaurant I knew of anywhere close to my house, and if I ever ate there with family or friends, I can’t remember it. My sense of regret was enormous, then, when I moved to Boston for college and discovered just how freaking delicious Thai food is.  To atone for my mistakes, I’ve been spending the past 5 years making up for lost time and eating Thai food pretty much everywhere I can find it, and I can safely say that Beau Thai is one of the best places I’ve eaten.
