The Morning Roundup

The Morning Roundup 4/17/2012

We have a couple of tough calls this morning.  And there is a whole lot to talk about, but, we can put another notch in the Scoutmob column today, as once again their deal reigns supreme.

Must-Buy: Today’s Scoutmob offers $5 for $10 at FoBoGro’s sandwich shop, located under their eclectic grocery on campus at GWU.  I know five dollars seems pretty small, but Scoutmob’s ‘no need to buy ahead’ formula makes this a no brainer.  The sandwiches here are big and memorable, especially the big fat Pauley, a big turkey number which has cooler ranch doritos on it, and The Famous McDougall, a buffalo chicken sub that will likely leave you with some leftover.  But what pushes this deal into must buy is the Boylan Soda fountain, which is a root beer aficionado’s dream, and your soft drink and sandwich should sit just under the ten dollar mark. Unfortunately the coupon does not apply to the grocery itself, which has exemptions allowing them to sell alcohol until midnight and a strange assortment of sundries.

Fifty-Fifty: Arlington’s Mala Ting is all sorts of good.  Offering individual Chinese hotpots as well as an assortment of sides and small plates makes this notable restaurant an awesome place for group dining or even an adventurous date.  Unfortunately, Google Offers’ $10 for $20 is not quite enough money off to afford great savings. During dinner, this deal may be just enough to cut one diners’ bill in half, stranding everyone else at full price.  Our advice, if you are interested in some high quality Chinese dining, pick this up to use on their discounted lunch menu.

Avoid: I hate saying avoid about a charity event, but this Capital Deals Chocolate Fashion Show seems like a No-Go.  Yes, $65 dollars is a nice save from the original $110. Yes, there is a bunch of chocolate.  And yes, there is an open bar.  But save the money for a restaurant with a big price tag, instead of watching a bunch of chocolate covered woman  walk in a straight line.
