Hello there. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes or a bear awakening from hibernation or many other terrible metaphors we have returned. We’re sorry we went out for cigarettes and never came back. The good news is 2014 will once again be a year chock full of ETD goodness.
Now I could give you a lot of excuses for why we didn’t keep up the blog, but they would be just that. We got lazy in 2013. One big factor contributed to this. Last year was marked by an incredible number of restaurant openings (I ate well in 2013). The explosion of 14th Street you’d have imagined would have given us plenty of fodder for posts. But what Eat the District is about first and foremost is our motto, “eat good. eat cheap.” The restaurants that were opening were certainly good, (I had wonderful meals at Le Diplomate, Red Hen, Osteria Morini, etc.) but they weren’t cheap. It was certainly frustrating to watch big opening after big opening of restaurants that felt overpriced or just plain expensive. This led to a sense of frustration on my part.
But DC is a good dining city and there are great places that won’t break your wallet. So in 2014 we’re back in business. People kept asking me when we would bring the blog back. And you’re a big part of the reason we’re back. But things are going to be a little different. Going forward if you see a deal publicized on this site it’s only going to be a Must Buy. If you’re thinking about getting that Groupon and you haven’t seen it on this site, we’ve slapped it with an Avoid by omission.
I’ll be posting a couple times of week on topics of my choosing. It might be a review. It might be a great new meatloaf recipe I discovered. It might be a thought piece. And if you want to join the party as a guest contributor we want your writing here. Don’t be afraid. If you have questions for a mailbag send them my way (drop me a line at micah@eatthedistrict.com). WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!
I’m excited to be back. 2014 is a going to be a big year. Stay hungry everyone.
