Will Work for Cooking Class
Even if you only ate at Eat the District-certified Bargain Bites restaurants, both your bank account and your health would probably start to suffer eventually. Most people cook the majority of their dinners, and after a few years of the same 10 recipes recycled over and over, this can start to get a little tiresome. Luckily, this is why God invented cooking classes: to let those of us who can’t just “Julia and Julia” our way through a cookbook learn and practice some new recipes in a safe, supervised space.

Quit Your Job and Work for Facebook
“Go west, young man.” – Horace Greeley
So I have a confession to make. Contrary to popular belief I do not spend all my time working on perfecting Eat The District. I have a full-time job (pause to let that bombshell sink in). And as luck would have it early this week I was fortunate enough to get to travel out west for a meeting at Facebook HQ. I’m not going to talk about why I was there or what I learned, but I will tell you about how I ate. Don’t worry: I was assured that this was okay and not part of the NDA I signed.

The Agony and the Ecstasy
Every year in late February/early March I am faced with my greatest dilemma. It’s always caused by the same event, so I know it’s coming. Oscar Sunday presents the ultimate Micah Lubens paradox. I love Oscar Sunday. I love movies, and if there weren’t already so many excellent film blogs I would’ve potentially started my own. I also love tradition, friendship, and camaraderie. Unfortunately, I hate terrible chain dining. These preferences come crashing head-to-head every Oscar Sunday at the much maligned, much blogged about Olive Garden.

Check it Out: Free Georgetown Cupcakes
We here at Eat the District live by only one maxim in life: the only thing better than eating for cheap is eating for free. We are known scavengers, seeking out every complementary drink we can find and asking our friends if they’re REALLY going eat those leftovers because maybe we should just take them instead. We. Love. Free. Food.
Which is why our ears perked up when we first learned of Georgetown Cupcake’s daily cupcake giveaway. Every morning – yes, EVERY SINGLE MORNING – Georgetown Cupcake tweets and posts on Facebook the secret flavor of the day.

A Sincere Thank You
At the end of our first day we wanted to offer a sincere thanks to all of you. The overwhelming amount of support we received today was truly humbling. It makes what we’re doing worth it. Someone that was recognized this morning that deserves another special thanks is Jordan Sheckman, who brought our vision to life. We have a fantastic home for this site and it’s only going to continue to grow.
We’re out celebrating at La Forchetta (more on that at a later date), but we couldn’t end our first day without giving thanks.

What We’re Offering
Chai everybody! (Just kidding!) I’m Evan, and I’ll be working with Micah and our bloggers to bring you all the information we can about great food at great prices. Hopefully you’ve read Micah’s first post and have an idea what we’re about here at Eat the District. I’m here to tell you a little bit more about the type of posts you can expect to find.
First off, every morning we’re going to bring you The Morning Roundup, a quick survey of all the internet deals offered on websites like Groupon, LivingSocial, and Scoutmob.

And We’re Back (Sort Of)!
Welcome to the newly redesigned Eat the District…..
Pause for effect.
And that’s it. That’s what you get. Over two months of planning and thought and countless drafts and this is the best I could come up (this current iteration came to me while sleepwalking through a game of squash with Evan). No witty opener, no food pun, just welcome. This is going to be rough, but I promise we’ll get somewhere. Someday.
Many of you aren’t familiar with Eat the District so the impact of this redesign and relaunch is lost on you.
