Grilled Cheese

Lets do some word association.  Grilled cheese: Delicious.  Gooey.  Diner.  Lunchtime.  Childhood.  Butter.  Sandwich.  Perfection.

I’m a sandwich man.  I like to eat things between two pieces of bread.  It allows me to eschew forks and knives, hence reducing objects within my field of vision that I am unable to eat while chowing down.  Side note: when eating, things that I cannot eat are offensive to me. Bring on the edible plates.  Anywho… I’m a sandwich man… I already said that?

Only one food deal today, as most websites have massage deals and The Capitol Deal website may be down.  But Today’s deal looks to be a good one.

Must Buy: Today Scoutmob is offering half off at Zabb Modern Asian with a twenty dollar max discount.  Any time Scoutmob puts up a sushi restaurant I am tempted to give it a go.  There is nothing quite so wonderful as $40 of sushi for only $20.  This Dupont restaurant is mostly known as an overflow happy hour hotspot from Mexican pre-game party factory Lauriol Plaza.

$6 Chicken or Pasta Meal at Whole Foods

Whole Foods isn’t exactly known for their cheap eats. The upscale supermarket has developed a reputation for having quality food but at prices that aren’t reallywallet-friendly. This can be particularly true for their prepared foods, especially the pay-by-weight buffet: I’ve grabbed a couple of roasted potatoes, some pasta salad, and a few brussels sprouts and found myself paying over $10. But lately when I’ve been in a rush and looking for some tasty food at reasonable prices, I’ve been heading over to the Whole Foods in Tenleytown .

A limited selection of some okay deals here on May 1st.  Though all of these would be great if you lived in Southern Maryland.  Maybe it will take a bit for the month to ramp up.  Fingers Crossed.

Fifty-Fifty: I will definitely be getting this deal for %50 off of Tanad Thai up to $20 in Tenleytown.  This is because I live in Tenleytown.  For the rest if you, its standard scoutmob.  Get it if you are nearby or love Thai.  This new restaurant’s previous iteration, 4912 Thai was something of a Thai food staple for those who frequent the no mans land between Tenleytown and Friendship Heights.

Living the Sweetlife?

This Saturday I took a journey up north to Columbia, MD. My purpose was attending the second annual Sweetlife festival, a day of music and this year, of food. A big focus of this year’s festival was an increased emphasis on good food. The day was supposed to feature food from: Sweetgreen, Serious Eat, Jose Andres Pepe Truck, Fruck Farm, Taim, Bev Eggleston, Smucker Farms, Keany Produce, Momofoku Milk Bar, Pleasant Pops, The Big Cheese, Sweetflow Mobile, Roberta’s Pizza, Luke’s Lobster, Shake Shack, DC Central Kitchen, Toki Underground, Bake + Wired, Honest Tea, Applegate, Stonyfield, Kind Snacks, Bakery de France, Grody’s Pick Jar, Snikiddy Snacks, Sir Kensington Ketchup, Tadah!

Happy Monday everyone! Shake off the weekend and get back into it with us because we’ve got some deals for you. I was up at Sweetlife this weekend and you’re going to hear all about it later. We only really have one for you this morning, but luckily it’s one of the better deals we’ve featured recently. To the deal!

Must Buy: Is it any surprise that Scoutmob has  the best deal today? Their 50% off to Tagolio with it’s max discount of $25 is astounding. The food at Tagolio doesn’t break the bank as it is.

Last Exit Turns One

We’ve spent the first few weeks of Eat the District’s life sticking pretty close to that first word: eat. We’ve focused on the food and only the food, and whatever we did on a weekend night stayed on a weekend night. These past couple of days, though, Eat the District has been getting the urge to let our hair down and show our wild side. Yesterday we brought you the secret of the Gin Bucket, and today we’re pretty excited to tell you about our experience last night at Last Exit’s first birthday party.

The Morning Roundup 4/27/2012

It’s time to say goodbye and good riddance to this week, which has been pretty terrible for deals.  Today is no exception, with nothing particularly great coming your way. Here’s hoping next week shapes up a little bit better.

[UPDATE] Must Buy: Cafe Sazon in Arlington dropped a last minute fantastic deal on us. Groupon has three deals to pick from but we’re recommending the $33 for a dinner for 4. For $8.25 you get an entree, a dessert, and a drink. WHAT?!? The food must have to be terrible. Not so.

In Praise Of

The Mighty Gin Bucket

As Eddard Stark might say, summer is coming (yes, we’re Game of Thrones nerds here at Eat the District). That means hanging outside, relaxing with friends, and sipping on a cold beverage. For me, as many of my friends know, that means the gin bucket. It is an anytime drink, but it’s best suited for the summer, a time when your cares melt away and the days are long. It’s really my favorite time of the year, and the gin bucket may be my favorite alcoholic beverage. For years I’ve been making it and oftentimes people will ask me, “Micah, what do you put in your gin bucket?” and for years I’ve been giving them the cold shoulder.

The Morning Roundup 4/26/2012

Happy Thursday y’all. The weather outside is not looking so hot today. Similary, the deals aren’t looking so hot. Like the nice weather, the good deals will come again. I promise.

Must Buy UPDATE: Groupon came out with a new deal late in the game and it’s a winner: $20 for $40 to Lebanese Taverna. I love Lebanese food and although it’s a bit pricey here, the quality is good and you’ll easily be able to get two entrees with this deal. And given the quality of this week’s deal, this one is a certainly a must buy.
