The Morning Roundup

The Morning Roundup 4/10/2012

Good morning everybody! Only two new restaurant deals today (and unfortunately no Must-Buys) so let’s get to it.

Fifty-Fifty:  We’ve already told you our usual feelings on eating at places that are meant for drinking, so Groupon’s deal for Capitol Lounge made us a bit nervous at first glance.  But the place has a solid looking pub menu with good reviews on their food, and $20 for $40 should more than cover a meal and a beer for two.  We’re not thrilled enough to whole-heartedly recommend this deal, but it’s a good find if you’re looking for a place to catch a quick bite in the Capitol Hill area.

Check it Out: Free Georgetown Cupcakes

We here at Eat the District live by only one maxim in life: the only thing better than eating for cheap is eating for free. We are known scavengers, seeking out every complementary drink we can find and asking our friends if they’re REALLY going eat those leftovers because maybe we should just take them instead. We. Love. Free. Food.

Which is why our ears perked up when we first learned of Georgetown Cupcake’s daily cupcake giveaway. Every morning – yes, EVERY SINGLE MORNING – Georgetown Cupcake tweets and posts on Facebook the secret flavor of the day.

I spent the first 18 years of my life in the middle of Long Island, where great pizza and Chinese food could be found in abundance but where Thai food options were slim. There was one Thai food restaurant I knew of anywhere close to my house, and if I ever ate there with family or friends, I can’t remember it. My sense of regret was enormous, then, when I moved to Boston for college and discovered just how freaking delicious Thai food is.  To atone for my mistakes, I’ve been spending the past 5 years making up for lost time and eating Thai food pretty much everywhere I can find it, and I can safely say that Beau Thai is one of the best places I’ve eaten.

The Morning Roundup 04/05/2012

Good morning!  Here’s today’s Morning Roundup:

This deal is too good to pass up.

Must Buy: This deal actually went live yesterday afternoon (and we tweeted it over at @eatthedistrict), but Google Offers’ $5 for $10 at Starbucks deal is too much of a no-brainer not to include. Plus, for every deal purchased Starbucks donates $3 to the Create Jobs for USA fund, so you can pretend you’re buying this for charity and not just because you’re mildly addicted to their grande nonfat double shot caramel macchiato.
