The Morning Roundup

The Morning Round 7/26/2012

It’s almost Friday. Keep thinking that as you charge through today. You’re so close. I wish I had better deals to report, but alas I have nothing for you that makes me excited today.

Fifty-Fifty: Scoutmob’s deal to Sacrificial Lamb Kabobs & Wraps (1704 R St., NW) was one of those deals that seem good. But with only a max discount of $5 you’re not going to get enough off. I would go for the Chick Kabob or one of their gyros and get half off, but it’s hard to go out of your way for this.

Hello Monday. I know many of you are dreading the day, but think about all the good food you ate this weekend. Also we got some deals to get your week started right.

Must Buy: Many of you might have heard of the event Drink the District (July 28). We are not involved with this entity, but we support it nonetheless. Today’s LivingSocial is VIP Admission for one. Now what this entitles you to is early entrance to the first session. The event is divided into sessions 12-4 and 5-9. I will personally be attending the 5-9 sessions, but this deal is only for the morning.

Happy Friday. You’re almost to the weekend. We wish we had some better deals to take you into the weekend, but alas sometimes that’s how the deals break.

Avoid: Another entry in the restaurant/lounge avoid category is Scoutmob’s Panache deal today. Too expensive, excludes happy hour, need I say more?

That’s it for this week. We had another workplace emergency so we’re off the rest of the day. Eat something tasty for us.

Happy Thursday, you’re almost to the weekend. You can do it! We’ve got some good deals to tide you over until Friday.

Must Buy: What’s better than free? Trick question, nothing. Every now and then Scoutmob throws a freebie out there. Today we have 1 16oz. tea gratis from Tea at The B Spot (1123 Pennsylvania Ave., SE). Now I’m not a tea drinker, but I’m the minority. So get over there and get a free tea.

Must Buy: A lot of the time you’ll see deals that exclude Happy Hours. Today’s Google Offer goes the other way.

Welcome to the (Untitled) ETD Mailbag

Good afternoon everyone. We wanted to introduce a new feature to the site today. Since we’ve started this blog, lots of people have been coming to us asking for restaurant recommendations, food recommendations, and general questions regarding DC dining. So we thought to ourselves, how can we turn this stream of questions into something productive? The answer (with, I have to admit, some helpful input from my dad), was easy: Write an Eat the District food advice column!

So here’s what we’re going to do.

Food Trucks

Seoul Food

Everyone knows that DC has been swept by food truck mania. We’re on board with this fad, 100%. However, sometimes lost in the craze are those trucks outside of DC. Some of the best the DMV has to offer, aren’t actually in DC. We’ve talked about a Montgomery County gem in the past. Today I’m here to tell you about one of Northern Virginia’s finest, Seoul Food.

Seoul Food, as the pun-y name suggests, dishes up Korean food. I know what you’re thinking, Micah, enough with your love of Bulgogi.

Happy Monday. You made it through the weekend and are with us now. We appreciate that. In honor of you, we have some great deals today:

Must Buy: In Tenleytown we don’t have a lot of dining options. So when of our go-tos has a deal, we take notice. The Capitol Deal’s $7 for $15 to Z-Burger (multiple locations) is going to a big seller up our way. I really like their food. The burgers are good, the hot dogs are better, and whoa those shakes. If I’m getting a shake, I’m getting a chocolate peanut butter malted.

In Praise Of

English Coastal Cheddar

I have strong opinions about a lot of food items. Some of you will call it snobbery (and probably rightfully so), but I consider it knowing what I want. One of these areas is cheese. Especially cheddar cheese. It’s my favorite, and I have taken a lot of time and sampled a lot of different varieties and producers to know what I like. I’ve had cheddar from Vermont, Wisconsin, Oregon, California, New York, Quebec, Ireland, England, the list goes on. So what’s my favorite? English Coastal Cheddar.

Welcome back everyone. Hope you had a great Wednesday. We got one deal today that I’m pretty excited about, and one deal that I can’t accurately judge so I’ll leave it up to you.

Must Buy: The Spanish tapas craze has gripped DC. Every cuisine now is all in on small plates. However, Spanish food is not limited to small portions and sharing. Today’s Scoutmob to Top Spanish Café (3541 Georgia Ave., NW) proves just that. Yes they have tapas, but there’s a lot to offer. And with a $25 max discount you’re looking at a lot of food.

Did you survive the sudden rainstorm last night? I hope you did. I hope you weren’t outside eating a lovely meal when it hit. If you were, let’s hope these deals make you feel better.

Must Buy: I really like Indian food, and as I’ve complained here before sometimes you get deals to Indian restaurants that just aren’t worth it. You want to like them, but Indian is often just too pricey. So that’s why The Capitol Deal’s deal to Rasoi Indian Kitchen (1810 K St., NW) is awesome.
