The Morning Roundup

The Morning Roundup: 6/8/2012

One great option and then a couple of deals for the section of Washington society that actually likes things in Georgetown.

Must Buy: Scoutmob’s %50 off up to $20 to Ma-Ma’s Southern Cuisine appears to be a home run.  Serving up generous portions of Fried Chicken and sauteed fish along with delicious southern homestyle sides, this C-heights/Petworth eatery is very highly regarded for its comfortable ‘make yourself at home’ atmosphere and its cuisine.  If you find yourself over there, this family run restaurant should be one of your first stops.

The Morning Roundup 6/5/2012

Woke up to some lovely weather (this is June?) and some great deals. I’m really excited for some of these.

Must Buys: LivingSocial has a pair of deals that I’m a big fan of this morning. Both are event deals at their 918 F St home. The first is a beer tasting curated by local beer aficionado Greg Engert. $39 gets you a trip around the world and through time. You’ll learn (and drink) a lot. They also have some tasty appetizers on deck. The second event is just for me bro’s out there. A cooking class just for the guys.

Good morning. Hopefully the rain holds off today and the sun rears its head today. We got a few deals for you, one that’s extra sweet. To the deals!

Must Buy: I’m a big believer in pie. I think it’s one of the better desserts. I’ll be blasphemous and say that I prefer pie to most chocolate desserts (Evan is somewhere yelling and acting incredulous). So today’s Scoutmob to Pie Sisters (3423 M St., NW) is an easy must buy. With a max $5 discount you can get two of their signature “cuppies” or personal sized pies.

Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend!  Here’s a couple deals to kick off your summer.

Must Buy/Avoid:  I know this seems like what our Fifty-Fifty designation is for, but LivingSocial’s Food Trucks deal is a bit different: some of you should absolutely make sure you buy it, and others should definitely stay away.  If you work near a food truck-populated area and have a coworker to split this deal with, then this is a no-brainer.  Steve recently gave a big thumbs up to Chupacabra, and this deal will easily get you lunch for two there or at the Peanut Butter Jelly Time Truck.

Good morning! Here are your deals for the day:

Must-Buy:  RFD in Chinatown is already a great spot to grab a burger for lunch or a drink and some delicious pretzels with a friend, and today’s Groupon deal makes it that much better.  The deal doesn’t allow you to get dinner, but that’s really not what RFD is for.  We say don’t miss this one.

Must-Buy:  This isn’t a food deal, but today’s Scoutmob for Rocket Bar is a great chance to save some money at one of the more fun bars in DC.

The Morning Roundup 5/21/2012

Welcome back to the week everyone. I hope you had a relaxing food filled weekend. Congrats to all the new GW and Georgetown grads. I know many of you may now be officially unemployed, but there’s good news, we have deals for you! Take advantage of these more than ever because it sure beats eating ramen everyday. On to the deals!

Must Buy: This may be the best deal we’ve ever featured. LivingSocial is offering $30 for $60 to Kushi (465 K Street NW). If you haven’t already bought it, stop reading and go do so.

We’re back from a lovely weekend and there are deals to be had. I’m hoping that this will be the week May turns the corner from pretty good deals to great deals. On to the Roundup!

Must Buy: We’ve shunned a few brunch deals in the past, which as a lover of brunch has made me sad. LivingSocial finally delivers the goods this morning with a fantastic $30 for $60 to Policy. This deal is good for two entrees, a seasonal bread basket, and bottomless Mimosas OR bottomless Bloody Marys. The drinks normally cost $18/each so basically this deal gets you brunch and free unlimited drinks.

FRIDAY!  And to celebrate, Livingsocial has a fantastic deal for you.

Must-buy:  Livingsocial’s $15 for $30 at H Street’s Sticky Rice is as close to a no-brainer as they come.  This popular spot serves up delicious Asian fusion food, from innovative sushi rolls to a variety of noodle dishes, none of which disappoint.  Even better, the portion sizes are huge:  two appetizers and one entree are easily enough food for two people, making the $30 easily enough for you and a friend.  Don’t miss this one.

A pretty weak week for deals. We do have one that’s worth checking out and one to give a pass to. I’m hoping we roll into Thursday and Friday with some gems, but alas we don’t control the deals, only report on them.

Must Buy: If we were doing a tally (and we’re not, though maybe we should be) Scoutmob would be the leader for best deals. Today is no different. They’re offering 50% to Rhino Bar and Pumphouse. I like Rhino Bar (and not only because it’s an Ohio State bar). They’ve got pretty good wings, a good beer selection and the atmosphere is pretty good.

Slim pickings this morning, folks.  A couple of decent offers but nothing great, and a couple of definite avoids.  Here’s hoping the rest of the week looks better.

Fifty-Fifty: Today’s Scoutmob for Thai at Corner in Arlington is a pretty good deal if you’re looking for a quick dine-in lunch for one: you’ll end up with some fairly well-reviewed Thai food for only about $5.  If you’re looking for dinner for two, though, the deal’s value drops significantly, and nothing about Thai at Corner suggests it’s a location to go out of your way for.
