The Morning Roundup 1/16/2014

So we told we were back and what good tidings we bring. Today’s deal actually wasn’t from today, but I saw it before we brought the blog back and it was so good I was mad I couldn’t share it. But guess what today is your day. DC is a city well known for it’s Ethiopian food. Everyone has their favorite spot. Today we are featuring my favorite Ethiopian joint, Etete (1942 9th St., NW). Located on 9th St in between U and T, Etete makes a perfect anytime meal. Whether you’re checking a show out at the 9:30 Club or looking for a cool date spot or just enjoying a night out with friends you can’t go wrong with LivingSocial’s offer of $20 for $40.

The Greek Spot

It’s a well-worn cliché, whether you’re buying a house or opening a store: it’s all about location, location, location. But when I think about The Greek Spot, located on 11th street just north of U Street, it’s one of the first things that comes to mind. For all that U street has to offer, there are less counter-service restaurants for a quick, cheap bite of food than you’d expect, and The Greek Spot fills this hole with large portions of gyro, souvlaki, and falafel. Whether you’re catching a show at the 9:30 Club or DC9 or are late meeting up with some friends at the bar, The Greek Spot is in the perfect location for you to stop by and fill up.

The Morning Roundup 6/12/12

Only two deals this morning [LATE BREAKING FOURTH DEAL UPDATE].  Here you are:

Fifty-Fifty: Got a date planned and looking for somewhere nice to go?  Take advantage of Scoutmob’s deal at 1905 Bistro, where $25 off will just about cover dinner for two at this French/Southern hybrid.  The food gets mixed reviews, so it may not be worth it if you’re just looking for a great meal, but the vibe is perfect for wooing your potential significant other.

Avoid:  The Capitol Deal’s wine-and-food-pairing class for two for $79 is just too expensive for me to recommend, especially considering the lack of reviews available for Food and Wine by Nafi.

Beau Thai

I spent the first 18 years of my life in the middle of Long Island, where great pizza and Chinese food could be found in abundance but where Thai food options were slim. There was one Thai food restaurant I knew of anywhere close to my house, and if I ever ate there with family or friends, I can’t remember it. My sense of regret was enormous, then, when I moved to Boston for college and discovered just how freaking delicious Thai food is.  To atone for my mistakes, I’ve been spending the past 5 years making up for lost time and eating Thai food pretty much everywhere I can find it, and I can safely say that Beau Thai is one of the best places I’ve eaten.
