The Morning Roundup 8/23/2012

Welcome to Thursday. We are now officially less than two weeks from football season. Can you feel it? Let’s get to it.

Must Buy:
Yesterday Groupon had a late deal that I want to tell you about. It’s very similar to a deal we ran a few months ago, so I’m going to mostly plagiarize myself. I’m a big fan of a prix fixe menu. I often am overwhelmed by choices, and restauranteurs generally know what’s best on the menu. This menus, however, can often be expensive. Today’s LivingSocial Groupon deal is anything but.

Theme of the day: restaurants we’ve featured before on The Morning Roundup. One deal gets better, one deal loses some value, and one deal is so similar I’m just going to copy and paste.  Here’s what we got for you today.

Must-buy: Today’s Groupon is $12 for $26 Boston-import The Upper Crust in Dupont Circle, and if you’re craving some good pizza this is one you shouldn’t miss.  This deal has a bit more going for it than the $10 for $20 one Micah gave a fifty-fifty in April; with $26, you’ll easily have enough food for 3, maybe 4 people, as this should cover or come close to covering both a pizza and one of their calzones.

Happy Wednesday. It’s only three more days until the weekend. You can do it!

Must Buy: I’ve never had food from New Zealand. I know they eat a lot of lamb, but beyond that I’m at a loss. So that’s partly why today’s Scoutmob to Cassatt’s Kiwi Cafe & Gallery (4536 Lee Hwy, Arlington, VA) is so intriguing. With a max discount of $10 at lunch or $15 at dinner you’re going to get a good amount of food, a lot of which looks mighty tasty.

Avoid: A lot of times you’ll see restaurants featured on multiple deal sites.

Well here it is. Friday. The end of the week. Olympics opening day. The beginning of over two weeks of unabashed jingoism.  Let’s get some deals going to start your weekend.

Must Buy: I love Indian food. Usually deals to Indian restaurants just aren’t worth it. The places that they often feature are mediocre and the money just isn’t there. Today’s LivingSocial to Indique/Indique Heights proves to be an exception to the rule. $20 for $40 will get you mighty tasty, decently priced Indian.

Hello Monday. I know many of you are dreading the day, but think about all the good food you ate this weekend. Also we got some deals to get your week started right.

Must Buy: Many of you might have heard of the event Drink the District (July 28). We are not involved with this entity, but we support it nonetheless. Today’s LivingSocial is VIP Admission for one. Now what this entitles you to is early entrance to the first session. The event is divided into sessions 12-4 and 5-9. I will personally be attending the 5-9 sessions, but this deal is only for the morning.

It’s going to be over 100 degrees today, folks. Oof.  Stay inside, drink a lot of water, and make yourself feel better by grabbing one of today’s great must-buys.

Must-buy: Groupon’s deal for $25 for $50 of food and drink at Biergarten Haus is a no-brainer, getting you 50% at one of the best spots to hangout on H Street.  Snap this deal up and spend an evening in their outdoor beer garden, snacking on German-style food and choosing from their extensive beer list.

Must-buy: Today’s Scoutmob for $20 for $40 at Casa Oaxaca is a great deal for some of the most authentic Mexican food in DC.

Happy Monday. You made it through the weekend and are with us now. We appreciate that. In honor of you, we have some great deals today:

Must Buy: In Tenleytown we don’t have a lot of dining options. So when of our go-tos has a deal, we take notice. The Capitol Deal’s $7 for $15 to Z-Burger (multiple locations) is going to a big seller up our way. I really like their food. The burgers are good, the hot dogs are better, and whoa those shakes. If I’m getting a shake, I’m getting a chocolate peanut butter malted.

Happy Monday everyone. I hope that you survived the storm, and have power. The men of Eat the District are powerless, but that doesn’t stop the deals.

Must Buy: There are a lot of places that bill themselves as Modern Asian or Asian Fusion and a lot can’t pull it off. Many are pretty good and some are very good. Today’s Scoutmob falls somewhere in between pretty and very good. 50% off to Zabb Modern Asian (1836 18th St., NW) offers you up to $20. This will get you a really good amount of food for a low price.

Congratulations! You’re almost there. It’s almost 5pm on Friday, and you’ll be able to escape the office and head home. Hopefully you won’t melt today, as it looks to be another scorcher. To the deals!

Must Buy: Today’s Scoutmob is a little confusing. 50% off to Gesté Wine and Food (4801 Edgemoor Ln, Bethesda) implies you can get wine with your deal. You can’t. With a max discount of up to $10 you can get a lot of really tasty food, but no alcohol. Despite this lack of wine, this deal is a must buy.

Happy hump day!  You are almost there!  Here are the deals!

Fifty-Fifty: $15 for $30 over at Layalina in Arlington from scoutmob is an okay deal.  Boasting an extensive menu, Layalina heavily features it’s Lebanese and Syrian roots.  Unfortunately, the menu, with it’s plethora of spiced meat as well as hummus and vegetarian options is pretty expensive.  Most of the entrees sit just under $20 meaning your coupon wont do all that much.  Also, it is a bit of a ways outside the city.
