The Morning Roundup 8/2/2012

Happy Thursday. We’re one day from August 3, which is a pretty special day (it’s my birthday). So hopefully we’ll have some great deals tomorrow. Today? Well let’s take a look at today’s deals:

Must Buy: One of the hidden gems of Georgetown is Wisey’s (1440 Wisconsin Ave., NW). They make a pretty solid sandwich/salad at a decent price. So that makes today’s Scoutmob a no-brainer. Only a $5 max discount, but the prices are pretty reasonable. Try out a smootie or a shake while you’re there.

Happy August everyone. August is my favorite month (and not just because it’s my birthday). Hopefully we’ll have some great meal to close out the summer. Today is not so hot.

Fifty-Fifty: H St is one of our favorites here at ETD. Our H Street correspondent Evan Chiacchiaro has given us the low down on many excellent spots. Today’s Scoutmob to Pho Bar and Grill got me  because it combined H Street and Pho. But then when I dug a little deeper I realized this deal was only so-so. With only a max discount of $8 you’re not going to be getting a ton of food.

We’re back in the saddle. I hope you ate as well as I did this weekend. We have a couple of deals this morning. Also don’t forget to follow us on twitter @EatTheDistrict, and keep submitting your questions to micah@eatthedistrict.com.

Must Buy: Free bagel alert! I will eat a free bagel no matter what so Scoutmob’s deal to  SOVA Espresso and Wine (1359 H St., NE) makes me really happy. Go in, grab a free bagel, and snag a coffee. Sounds like a pretty ideal morning combination. All you H Street folks shouldn’t miss this.

Well here it is. Friday. The end of the week. Olympics opening day. The beginning of over two weeks of unabashed jingoism.  Let’s get some deals going to start your weekend.

Must Buy: I love Indian food. Usually deals to Indian restaurants just aren’t worth it. The places that they often feature are mediocre and the money just isn’t there. Today’s LivingSocial to Indique/Indique Heights proves to be an exception to the rule. $20 for $40 will get you mighty tasty, decently priced Indian.

It’s almost Friday. Keep thinking that as you charge through today. You’re so close. I wish I had better deals to report, but alas I have nothing for you that makes me excited today.

Fifty-Fifty: Scoutmob’s deal to Sacrificial Lamb Kabobs & Wraps (1704 R St., NW) was one of those deals that seem good. But with only a max discount of $5 you’re not going to get enough off. I would go for the Chick Kabob or one of their gyros and get half off, but it’s hard to go out of your way for this.

Hello Monday. I know many of you are dreading the day, but think about all the good food you ate this weekend. Also we got some deals to get your week started right.

Must Buy: Many of you might have heard of the event Drink the District (July 28). We are not involved with this entity, but we support it nonetheless. Today’s LivingSocial is VIP Admission for one. Now what this entitles you to is early entrance to the first session. The event is divided into sessions 12-4 and 5-9. I will personally be attending the 5-9 sessions, but this deal is only for the morning.

Happy Friday. You’re almost to the weekend. We wish we had some better deals to take you into the weekend, but alas sometimes that’s how the deals break.

Avoid: Another entry in the restaurant/lounge avoid category is Scoutmob’s Panache deal today. Too expensive, excludes happy hour, need I say more?

That’s it for this week. We had another workplace emergency so we’re off the rest of the day. Eat something tasty for us.

Happy Thursday, you’re almost to the weekend. You can do it! We’ve got some good deals to tide you over until Friday.

Must Buy: What’s better than free? Trick question, nothing. Every now and then Scoutmob throws a freebie out there. Today we have 1 16oz. tea gratis from Tea at The B Spot (1123 Pennsylvania Ave., SE). Now I’m not a tea drinker, but I’m the minority. So get over there and get a free tea.

Must Buy: A lot of the time you’ll see deals that exclude Happy Hours. Today’s Google Offer goes the other way.

Happy Monday. You made it through the weekend and are with us now. We appreciate that. In honor of you, we have some great deals today:

Must Buy: In Tenleytown we don’t have a lot of dining options. So when of our go-tos has a deal, we take notice. The Capitol Deal’s $7 for $15 to Z-Burger (multiple locations) is going to a big seller up our way. I really like their food. The burgers are good, the hot dogs are better, and whoa those shakes. If I’m getting a shake, I’m getting a chocolate peanut butter malted.

Welcome back everyone. Hope you had a great Wednesday. We got one deal today that I’m pretty excited about, and one deal that I can’t accurately judge so I’ll leave it up to you.

Must Buy: The Spanish tapas craze has gripped DC. Every cuisine now is all in on small plates. However, Spanish food is not limited to small portions and sharing. Today’s Scoutmob to Top Spanish Café (3541 Georgia Ave., NW) proves just that. Yes they have tapas, but there’s a lot to offer. And with a $25 max discount you’re looking at a lot of food.
